Our Honey

Antica Apicoltura Gallurese  history begins in 1981  when Dr.Pietro Paolo Porcu,  from Berchiddeddu, a village in the north of Sardinia, received a Queen and colony of honey bees,  as a sign of  gratitude for his work, from one of his patients.

Immediately Pietro’s attention was captured by the extraordinary industrious work carried by these insects, so much that it soon became his greatest passion and the colony of bees started to increase ( today they own 1500 colonies).

A key turning point was his encounter with  well-known apiarist Antonio Maludrottu, the combined  knowledge of both men brought to life our company by increasing exponentially the number of hives and becoming one of the best and biggest bee keepers and  Honey Producers in Italy, winning many prices for the highest quality, purity and best flavour.

Pietro’s great passion has been passed to his  3 children since they were really young , Giuseppe, Roberta and Davide, and nowadays  they are looking after the company, always searching for the newest biological technologies to improve their exceptional work and respect the environment.

Antica Apicultura Gallurese  keeps  its apiaries in the hills surrounding Berchiddeddu, a rugged area totally devoid of any form of intensive agriculture,  factories and heavily trafficked roads, truthfully this geographical area is  kept unspoiled by the human presence, making this part of the land  the perfect environment to produce a  super high quality product thanks to the complete absence of pollution.

Taking advantage of such a favourable environmental situation  the company  produces many fine varieties of honey that are totally free of any form of contaminants such as residues from agricultural treatments, heavy metals from road traffic, and any other form of chemical pollution that is often present in other more inhabited territories.

The vegetation in the Berchiddeddu area makes it possible to produce single-flower honeys such as Lavender, Strawberry Tree , Cardoon, and a highly prized Millefiori.

We pride ourselves, thank to the rediscovery of an ancient procedure, to  produce  Abbamele,  a delicious super food that finds its origins in the culture of our island.
